Political Section

A key activity of the Political Section is to keep the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and other parts of the UK Government informed about events in Bangladesh. The Political Section is also responsible for lobbying the Government of Bangladesh on issues of importance to Britain and leading many areas of the UK’s policy and engagement in Bangladesh, eg human rights, democracy, governance, migration and climate change.

Counter Terrorism and International Crime Section

Responsible for the UK’s co-operation with Bangladesh in countering the threat of terrorism and promoting activities to address root causes of extremism.  It is also responsible for mutual assistance between the UK and Bangladesh on countering drugs and other trafficking, and tackling corruption.

UK Trade and Investment (Commercial Section)

Supports British companies in the UK trading internationally and overseas enterprises seeking to locate in the UK.

Press and Communications Unit

The Press and Communications Unit (PCU) is responsible for the communication, presentation and promotion of UK Government policy in Bangladesh.

Consular

The Consular Section of the British High Commission provides a range of services for British nationals,  including issuing British passports, birth certificates, verifying documents and issuing travel advice. It offers  a registration programme and provides information for new British residents in Bangladesh.  Should a British national become ill, die,  be arrested,  become a victim of a crime, or be forced into marriage, Consular Section offers advice and assistance.

Immigration and Visa Section

Responsible for processing settlement and non-settlement visa applications and matters concerning.

Defence Section

Responsible for maintaining the UK and Bangladesh’s military-to-military relationship.

Pensions Section

Ensures that eligible British nationals resident in Bangladesh receive due benefits.

Management Section

Responsible for administration of the High Commission and its estates.
