The construction of  the British High Commission in Dhaka was completed in 1992. The Rt Hon Lynda Chalker, the then Minister for Overseas Development, laid the foundation stone in February 1990 and the High Commission moved to the new office in late 1992.

The Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke QC MP, the then Secretary of State at the Home Office formally opened the High Commission on 1 January 1993.
