These are issued from the following six main locations:
For Bangladesh - British High Commission, Dhaka
For India - British High Commission, New Delhi
For India - British Deputy High Commission, Mumbai
For Pakistan - British High Commission, Islamabad
For Nepal - British Embassy, Kathmundu
For Sri Lanka - British High Commission, Colombo
Preventing Passport Fraud
We currently deal with a high level of attempted passport fraud across South Asia. To tackle this our specialist fraud prevention teams run a range of additional checks and verifications on passport applications. This may mean that:
- Your passport application may take additional time. Please see the section on timelines
- You may be asked for additional documents to support your claim and identity. A list of the additional documents required for each of the countries in our region is available on the individual country pages.
- You may be called for interview at one of our offices.
We apologise for the inconvenience of these additional measures however they are essential to:
- Establish your eligibility and entitlement to a British passport
- Prevent other people impersonating you and using your identity to commit fraud and other serious offences. Sadly, this is happening more frequently with distressing consequences for victims
- Reduce passport fraud and forgery. This sort of crime is becoming more sophisticated and more organised
- Counter terrorist activity, making international travel safer and hassle-free
Prevent illegal entry into the UK and other countries. Please be aware that in any cases where we suspect passport fraud we will:
- Retain the application fee
- Retain suspect documents
- Look to initiate prosecution of the applicant, including possible disclosure of documentation relating to the application to the local authorities.
Timelines
Our target is to renew exisiting passports within 10 working days (not including postage time). However first time applications can take ten weeks or more to process.
You should not make any travel arrangements until the new passport is received and we cannot be held responsible for costs incurred as a result of disrupted travel plans.
