Applying for a UK passport in Bangladesh

Who can make an application?

Any British National of 16 years old or over, and any person with custody of a child (less than 16 years old)

When renewing a passport you don't have to wait until your passport runs out. You can apply at any time. If there is any time left on your old passport, we will add it to your new passport, in whole months, up to nine months. We cannot carry over more than nine months from your old passport to your new one.

You can renew your passport whenever you wish, but you must pay the full fee. No refund can be given for any unexpired time left in your old passport.

Can I send my application in by post?

Yes.
If you wish to apply by post you can send a bank draft or international money order in taka only made payable to "British High Commission". It is quicker if you use our bank, Standard Chartered, and post to the British High Commission Dhaka.

What photos do I need?

You will need to provide two identical passport photographs that meet the correct standard.

What supporting documents do I need?

We request a range of different documents depending on the type of passport application. Further details are listed here. If invited for interview you may be asked to produce more documents.

Will I be called for interview?

Our specialist teams will carry out an initial assessment of your application, including checking the integrity of the documentation submitted, after which it will be decided whether or not we will need to call you for interview. We will get in touch as soon as this decision is made.

How much will it cost?

If you were born on or before 2 September 1929, you are entitled to a free passport.

Fees have to be paid in Bangladeshi taka only if applying in person and by banker's draft if applying by Post. Fees are non-refundable if your application is unsuccessful.

Our current fees are linked to the exchange rate and are liable to change at short notice if the rate changes.

How long will it take to get my passport?

Renewals of exisiting passports usually take around 10 working days (not including postage time). However first time applications can take ten weeks or more to process.

You should not make any travel arrangements until the new passport is received and we cannot be held responsible for costs incurred as a result of disrupted travel plans.

How do I keep in touch about the progress of my application?

We will let you know when your passport is ready for collection. Please note that due to the need for our staff to focus on core assessment task we will only respond to queries on applications that our office have had for more than ten working days.
